Remember, Remember
V for Vendetta is one of my absolutely favourite films, although I would not trust its hero with anyone’s personal development. His methods raise questions that a very good soundtrack cannot quite settle. The women keep drawing me back: Evey’s claim to a future, and Valerie’s astonishing tenderness towards someone she will never know. This November 5, they have me thinking about civic courage, public power and the difference between helping someone flourish and expecting to direct the result. My American education turned out to be a sound investment. Possibly more than my teachers intended.
